We talk about how Trey got started in the business and how important it is to keep your shears well-maintained. Trey shared some great tips on why you need to keep your shears sharp and working their best!
Trey is the son of a hairstylist from Missouri. He lived in New York prior to moving to Tacoma. Before starting Style Sharp, Trey worked for Unilever for ten years, during which time he traveled all over the United States. His mom suggested he change professions and become a shear sharpener after seeing how much he enjoyed being around her salon growing up. Trey took her advice and has never looked back!
Your Shears are Your Secret Weapon
Trey explained that when your shear is good, it's ready to blaze through hair, then everything else will come into place. By having a razor-sharp too, not only are you going to give your clients the best cuts possible, but you are also going to cut hair faster. This means, that you will book more cuts during the day and grow your bottom line.
Once people feel how a properly maintained shear is supposed to perform - understand how it's supposed to perform - everything comes together. Stylists, especially when they're young don't know if it's them or their tool and that can affect their confidence.
They Don’t Teach it in Beauty School
No one teaches what's good. No one teaches what's bad and no one teaches how to maintain it. People don't really know if it's going to be the shear for them until you get behind the chair and work with it.
Sheer Maintenance
The biggest decision in choosing a shear is to choose to maintain it. Just because you buy “the most” expensive shear does not mean that you don’t have to maintain it.
